How to Use a Calorie Counter to Cut Out High Calorie Foods

Losing weight using a calorie tracker usually means that you are attempting to consume a set number of calories in a day. Cutting calories often means eating smaller portions of food and choosing different foods. In addition to reducing the size of your portions, it often helps to cut out high calorie foods altogether. This doesn't meant that you'll never again be a lowed a treat, but it does mean putting high calorie foods back into the category of "occasional treat" as opposed to "daily menu item". By switching to a lower calorie breakfast with higher fiber content, you have found a quick and easy way to trim calories.

Cutting out high calorie foods in your food diary doesn't have to be a painful process. If you decide that you still want a bagel every morning, maybe you switch to the whole wheat bagel with low calorie cream cheese. You can shave a couple hundred calories off of your breakfast and keep your morning routine intact. By implementing the same strategies for your other meals and snacks, you can even find a way to reach your calorie goals while keeping your routines relatively intact.

One of the great things about a food journal is that it tells you very quickly and easily just how many calories are in a food item. If you find that something you normally eat every day is too high in calories and fat to be practical, you can easily find a replacement for it that will be higher in nutrients but lower in calories. Reaching your calorie goals for the day can be easily achieved once you've identified and cut out the high calorie items from your regular meals.
